Fame Songs Chris Brown and Quavo Beef
QUAVO'S SOLO DEBUT
Migos' frontman, Quavo, has delivered his debut solo project,Quavo Huncho. In typical Migos' fashion, the project is loaded with 19 tracks that are over an hour long. Unfortunately, Quavo seems to lack the diversity of his other members, as this project is very one-dimensional.
The highlights from the project mostly come in the form of features: 21 Savage delivers a cold verse, and Lil Baby is proving to be one of the best artists on QC. Regrettably, most of the other features fall short. For example, anytime Drake and Migos link up, he typically sounds lazy. Also, Madonna, being a surprise feature, is probably one of the lowlights because her voice is too autotuned Furthermore, Quavo and Travis Scott haven't been prolific together since theRodeo deep cut, "Oh My Dis Side."
When Quavo is out of his element, is when the album gets good. Let us explain…Tracks like "SHINE," "GO ALL THE WAY," and "LOST" are some of the best tracks due to the beats being unique. "LOST" is one of the best tracks because Quavo changes his subject matter and talks about the struggles of fame. Kid Cudi's feature is nice on the track as well.
The biggest issue comes from the typical trap production, alongside Quavo's lack of storytelling. Even on a track like "FUCK 12," it can be appreciated for its message of racial profiling, however, on the first verse Quavo only raps about materialistic things, derailing the track early on from a valuable message. The dancehall-inspired "SWING" can be considered Quavo attempting self-versatility, however, many artists, such as Drake and French Montana, have ventured into dancehall—as if making trap inspired dancehall is a trend now.
Overall, the project has a few highlights, but it's messy. Quavo needs to step up his subject matter and beat selection because trap will not dominate the rap sphere forever.
DALLAS RAPPER SHOT
Early Sunday, Dallas rapper Yella Beezy was hospitalized after said to have been shot eight out of the twelve shots fired. While little is known for the reason, a representative gave a statement that the rapper is in stable condition. Beezy is one of Dallas' hottest rappers, and he is known for tracks like "Run Up A Check," "Up One" with Lil Baby, and "That's On Me." We are wishing the rapper best wishes and a road to a speedy recovery.
CITY OF MORGUE DOCUMENTARY
Mass Appeal has released a small documentary for the group City Morgue, consisting of ZillaKami and SosMula. Adding harsh vocals to their music, the two have a style that sets them apart from the rest of the crowd. Having not listened to them prior, the documentary was more than enough to get us hooked to not only the music, but to who they are as a team. They just released their mixtape, City Morgue Vol. 1: Hell Or High Water, therefore now would be a perfect time to dive in, if you haven't already.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS: HOUSTON RAPPER TRAE PERRY
The Creative Process featured and gave insight into Houston rapper, Trae Perry. This gets us excited because we are looking forward to his first tour, as well as an album that is getting ready to drop in 2019. Check out this episode below, and watch out for this up-and-coming artist.
DRAKE AND CHRIS BROWN END THEIR BEEF
Drake is a person that never fails to surprise… Just a few weeks ago, he brought out Meek Mills, officially squashing a beef that no one imagined would come to end (at least so soon). Just when you think he's done, the Internet flooded with videos of him bringing Chris Brown on stage, which is someone he has not entirely seen eye to eye with. What makes this so special is that it aids hip-hop to take a much needed step in a positive direction. Whether or not the two remain as close as the video seems is up in the air, however, that moment was a great one regardless.
RUN THE JEWELS CONTRIBUTE TO THE VENOM SOUNDTRACK
Power duo, Run The Jewels, have released a new track for theVenom soundtrack titled "Let's Go (The Royal We)." The track is a standard RTJ banger with fun and unique production from El-P and his team. Killer Mike definitely outshines El lyrically, but the track still bangs. The song is a great teaser to what fans are hoping for next from the group:RTJ4.
USHER'S GIFT TO FANS
Out of nowhere, Usher dropped a Zaytoven produced project titledA. Usher goes modern with a project full of trap production from one of the best to produce this genre of music. Running at twenty-seven minutes and eight tracks, Usher gives us plenty of bangers. Opening up with a future assisted "Stay At Home," the song sets the tone for the rest of the project. Usher cruises through the project with some of his best work in years. The only complaint is Zay's tag is on every track. Regardless, Usher definitely made the right move. Hopefully, we'll see more music like this from the R&B veteran.
KODAK DROP "ZEZE"
Kodak Black has teamed up with Offset and Travis Scott for a new track titled "ZEZE." As the artwork might indicate, the track has island vibes over trap production. The song is a decent single from three notable artists. While it's not anything special, it's a nice party track that can bring summer flashbacks.
Until next time, its On Wax.
